President's Report 2015/2016

As another season ends, it's time to look back and reflect on the achievements of our swimmers in both regional and national competitions. I have always been very proud of our swimmers and their achievements at national events when you consider that the majority of their training is in a two land 20m pool. This is a relection of the time, energy and commitment of our coaches Richard Dunkerton (Mr D) and Tiana Birchall. It is a credit to them that we regularly have swimmers int he top 10 in their age group at a national level.

Once again, this season the club has seen the results of their efforts with club swimmers participating at regional and national competitions.

Six swimmers, Paul Linton, Rose Linton, Isabelle Paton, Conor Swords, Kieran Swords and Dyland Sims competed in the NZ Short Course Championships in Auckland last August. Paul Linton won two silver medals for backstroke. Kieran broke a Northland fly record.

Two swimmers, Isabelle Paton and Paul Linton, were invited to attend the Swimming NZ High Performance camp - just Paul attended.

Four swimmers, Rose Linton, Rebecca Reade, Ocean Shadbolt and Zelda Sims attended the NZ Division II Championships in Invercargill in March. Rose got gold medals in the 50m and 100m back, and silver in the 200m back. The girls got bronze in teh club medley relay. Rose, Ocean and Zelda swam in the Regional medley relay and brought home gold for Northland. A great effort by our swimmers resulted in the team being ranked 30th out of 72 clubs competing.

Three swimmers, Isabelle Paton, Emma Wickham and Kieran Swords, qualified for and competed at teh 2016 NZ Open Championships in Auckland in March/April.

Five swimmers, Paul Linton, Isabelle Paton, Conor Swords, Kieran Swords and Emma Wickham, qualified for and competed at the National Age Group Championships (NAGS) in Wellington in April. All our swimmers performed well, swimming pbs and a number of them making finals.

A big thanks to our management committee who generously gave their time to run our club over the last 12 months.

To all our sponsors: Foundation North, Pelorus Trust, Northport, North Tugz - a huge thank you. Your support enables many families to continue participating in this rewarding sport.

Coach's Report 2015/2016 Season

Northland Age Group Championships:

27 swimmers attended, picking up 49 gold, 48 silver, 31 bronze and 69 other top six places and two race records (Emma and Paul both for 50m backstroke). Pbs rated at 63% which is not bad. Jessica, Jordan, Kiera, Emma, Casey, Jack, Larence, Rebecca, Jackson, May, Lily, Luca, Nina and Abby were the top PB achievers. The medal value definitely goes to Paul We did well in relays again with two firsts, a second and third. But, for the first time, we did not have a 9 & under team.

Rising Stars:

A team of 27 swimmers attended, our biggest team for some time, and collected 52 gold, 39 silver, 40 bronze and 55 other top six places. Top Pb achievers were Sam, Jordan, Samantha, Eva, Grace, Lily, Luca, Nina, Lila, Connor, Lawrence, Chelsea, Jackson, Amy, Benji and Alyssa. Recrods went to Benji, Jackson, Lily and Jordan as well as a relay record to Benji - Nina - Jordan - Sam. A good number of first time swimmers were at this meet and they did really well so my congratulations to them and Tiana. Our two relay wins and two third places augur well for our future growth.

General Comments:

To my support team from the parent roster a huge thanks. The stas recorded are invaluable and could not be done without you all. So well done to Adrienne and Julie my squad managers, both of whom are hereby advised of their reappointment. My apologies to you both for the odd no notice changes.

To Mike for lots of things including care of the BBC pool. Paul for his handyman skills and stat sheets. Sharon and Kerry for their warmup expertise. And again Kerry for her huge commitment to core body strength sessions. Hopefully her work commitments will allow her to continue. To Tiana, the levels I am receiving are improving each year.

To the swimmers, you continue to impress me. Particularly when you consider the lack of water space and session time during nine months of the season. You are competing with the top in NZ and making finals at a rate that speaks highly of your talent.
